  • Short plant description HU441 in culture

    Diameter of the culture plant is ca. 8 cm. 
    Plant height without cephalium 6 cm. 
    The colour of the epidermis is green. 
    Number of ribs 13. 
    Number of areoles per rib is 8 to 9 on plants with cephalium. 
    The shape of the areoles is oval to round. 
    The number of radial spines is ca.11.
    The length of the spines is 1 to 2.5 cm. 
    The plants have mostly a slightly curved central spine with a length up to ca. 3 cm.
    The shape of the spines is recurved backwards and the spines are covering the plant.  The colour of the spines is white to cream. 
    The colour of the cephalium is gray to light brown. 
    The colour of the fruit is rose to red. 
    Th position of the stigma is at the top of the stamens.

 

  • Remarks

    Looks very much like D. albispinus.
    They grow in the same area  -Serra de Cabaluda-but D. zehntneri  is smaller and has straighter spines than  D.albispinus, also its shape is more globose.

  • Habitat

    Ca. 29 km South-east of Sento Se at an altitude about 460 m. near Bresjio Grande, along the old road to Juazeiro, on and between rocks growing together with grasses and shrubs.
