Diameter of the culture plant is ca. 10 cm. 
Plant height without cephalium 7 cm. 
The colour of the epidermis is dark green.
The number of ribs is 12. 
Number of areoles per rib is 5 to 6 on plants with cephalium. 
The shape of the areoles is round. 
The number of radial spines is 6 to 8. 
The length of the spines upwards is 0.5 cm. and the spines side- and downwards is 2 cm. 
The shape of the spines is recurved backwards to the plant, the colour is brown with a dark tip. The colour of the flower is pure white and the fruit is white. The position of the stigma is at the primary stamens.

 

  • Remarks

    If the plant is ca. 2 years old this species is well recognizable by the dark green epidermis.

    West of  Fruta de Leite in Minas Gerais, Brazil,  in het northern part of the Chapada de Diamantina at an altitude of ca. 950 m. Between Riacho dos Machados and Salinas.

Diameter of the culture plant is ca. 10 cm. Plant height without cephalium 4.5 cm. The colour of the epidermis is green. Number oof ribs 12. Number of areoles per rib is 6-7 on plants with cephalium. The shape of the areoles is oval. The number of radial spines is 6. The length of the spines is 1-2 cm. The shape of the spines is sligtly recurved backwards and the colour is between amber and brown.  Mostly there is 1 central spine of ca. 1.5 cm. The colour of the cephalium is white/cream.The colour of the fruit is white. The position of the stigma is half-way up the secondary stamens.

 

  • Remarks

This type is somewhat aberrant from D. pugionacanthus HU 462 near FRUTA DE LEITE in MINAS GERAIS.

  • Habitat

    ca.70 km in the direction to Salinas near a transmitting pole.
